Born in East Los Angeles, Eduardo’ multicultural experience of being raised in a predominantly Asian and Hispanic community has had a profound influence on his personal and artistic expression as well as his identity. Likely best known as one of the star designers on the 2 time Emmy award winning television program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which is currently syndicated globally, Eduardo prefers to define himself by his cumulative life experiences.

The Early Years of Music

As a young boy Eduardo and his siblings learned how to tend the rose garden their grandmother, Catalina Marquez cherished so much. She also shared her knowledge of the power of herbs and taught her grandchildren the value of nature’s healing.

Eduardo began his musical education at a very early age. “Before I could speak a word of Spanish or English, I inherently understood the language of music.” His parents took note and worked the extra hours to give Eduardo private piano lessons at about the same time he started school. Eduardo quickly became an accomplished keyboardist and percussionist and was one of the youngest musicians to ever perform with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten. By this time he had experimented with many musical instruments and taught himself how to play woodwinds but by the time he was entering his teens, Eduardo knew he did not want to be a career instrumentalist.
